Sparrow Smith

Hailing from a holler near the artistic hotbed of Marshall, NC, Sparrow Smith weaves traditional instruments with observational poetry, dyed with the vivid natural pigments of her imagination, into music your bones can wear.

Like the afternoon sun on your face in springtime, these songs will warm you to the core and remind you of why life is astoundingly beautiful and dancing is necessary.

Sparrow Smith, a multi-instrumentalist based in Western North Carolina, is well loved for her tasteful banjo playing, epic accordion chops, and striking outfits. A longtime member and leader of multiple bands (most notably Resonant Rogues) with Keith Josiah Smith, her husband and collaborator, Sparrow is also a solo artist innovating Appalachian originals. Her journey into Appalachian old time started in her late teens with freight trains and Tommy Jarrell tapes, and her musical taste is also inspired by a lifelong love of dance. When not on tour, Sparrow can be found in the North Carolina mountains where she teaches Women’s Basic Carpentry and is building her own house from scratch.
